It is always a big task of the pet owner to clean the habitat of their pets. And as koi are generally delicate creatures, caring for them and cleaning their habitat require extra love and care. This is why a good number of koi keepers get the best equipment for their ponds. However, despite the importance of a good filtration system, don't you think you should first look into the koi water system?
Apart from this, hard, untreated water is also not always the best for the creatures. Although it may not exactly be fatal for the beautiful fishes, it can still do harm to them and what they can possibly be. So, if you are aspiring to be one good koi keeper, the first thing you should do to keep good water quality in your pond is by having a test kit that will help you determine the amount of minerals present in the water. Your kit must be able to help you watch out for pH, ammonia, nitrite, gh, kh, and salinity levels in the pond. This way, you can be sure that the koi water is safe and viable for your pets.
Another thing that you should watch out in the water is the growth of parasites. As the koi pond is a very good breeding place for certain bacteria and algae, you should be vigilant in looking after your pets. To avoid this, there are a good number of koi-safe chemicals that you can use in the water to ward off parasites from building up and living in the space of your pets.
Also, always remember to regularly check your pond equipment. As these machines' efficiency tend to slowly dwindle through time, it is essential that you have them checked regularly, just so you won't get stumped in case your filtration or heating system breaks off in the middle of winter when your pets need it the most. This way, you can also avoid putting your pets at risk of bacterial infections or freezing.
Keeping and maintaining your koi water is a bit of a task, but if you are really dedicated to it, you will find great pleasure from all the hard work.
